Quick Halal: secularism does have a say

In addition to the article Eric Timmermans Here my investigation (a little dated now):

chain fast food Quick imposed in several of its brands of halal meat to satisfy his Muslim customers, large areas of affected restaurants. A private matter, which looks nothing defenders of secularism ? No.

Secularism help hamburger? The idea might have seemed incongruous, not so long ago, if Quick had not decided to impose halal meat in some of its institutions. Now, in eight of Quick France (Toulouse Argenteuil, Garges-les-Gonesse, Buchelay, Villeurbanne, two in Marseille, Roubaix), customers, Muslim or not, are serving halal meat of beef or turkey instead of pork in two hamburgers (Strong Quick'n Toast and Bacon). Why not have both suggested, so that everyone can find pleasure ? Answer: For the meat is certified halal, it must not be near normal meat, which could "contaminate " halal meat offered.

Ironically, the restaurants have banned beer from their menus. It must be said that halalisation restaurants in question is presented by Quick as a simple "test .

Quick company " Belgian " ... state-owned French

A priori , nothing outrageous that a private company adapts to the demands of its customers. This is the argument of those , we could not suspect capitalist zeal of so many who think that no matter of controversy. Except ... Quick is not a private company. It is owned to 94 % by Caisse des Depots et Consignations, the financial arm of the French state. The fast food " Belgian "Is a French public company !

Naturally, the state does not control the sense Quick Renault when he controlled was the main shareholder. The control here is indirect, through QUALIUM Investment, a subsidiary of the Deposit and Consignment. Is there not here, however, mixing genres ?

After the grant by the municipalities, public land for the construction of mosques, to the lowest price, the public does not spell it out its role, and is there not an attack, even indirect, to the separation of church and the State (see Act of 1905) ?

indirect funding of religion, Muslim

And when known the halal certification bodies charge fees for their control slaughterhouses before to repay their recipe to church organizations, we understand therefore indirectly funded by the Quick Muslim faith by providing halal meat to its customers.

According to the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud , Islamic associations "collect a fee per kilo of product certified halal ... and thus collect funds for a significant amount " has ith an additional cost per kilogram estimated between 3 and 15 cents, as reported The Echoes . Certainly on a menu, the difference will be minimal, but on the whole halal market, manna for Islamic organizations is enormous : up to 45 million euros, for a market of 300 000 tonnes.

Quick is not the only one affected : France, many pieces of meat would be halal without that consumers do knowledge. With the tax certificate to the key.

Interviewed by telephone, customer service Quick responded that " not communicate " on this delicate subject. Consumers worried about where his money goes ... appreciate

A kosher so well hidden

What, then ? Quick shun burgers, as suggested by some Internet ?

Even though most consumers already buys chocolate bars and dairy kosher (which are in accordance with the Jewish religion) without even knowing ?

Our " cousins " Quebecois have gone much further in this direction : now, 7 5 % of food products are kosher without even that Quebecers are really informed.

Why, ask some Internet Muslims therefore, the transition to Quick halal some shocking there, when the imposition of kosher in many consumer products not trigger any outcry ? Would there be preferential treatment, as they say ?

If some halalisation Quick shocking is due to the fact that Quick is a " national brand " who shall thereby separation territories according to its communities. That is what has reacted mayor of Roubaix is that which must be reacted defenders of secularism. Even if there is not much else to do but protest.
