Jalabert, most of the Camargue bull
Organizer bullfights Arles is primarily a local man, and he was reappointed director of the arenas of Arles last year.
In Jalabert was the Camargue that sticks to feet like mud on the boots of his grandfather, Alphonse, who was Guardian of the Marquis de Baroncelli (founder of the Nation Gardiane) in 20s. The Mas is in Chassagne, in the heart of the delta, rooted as this family of horse breeders and bulls.
Luke Jalabert was a "rejoneador", a bullfighter on horseback, and he organized with his brother Marc, bullfights and horseback riding for twenty years when they take over the management of the Arena of Arles in 1999. A delegation of public service which has been renewed this summer for the third time. SAS Jalabert was opposite yet another prominent rider, the rejoneador Nîmoise Sara Marie. But its success has reinforced the confidence the municipality. "In 10 years, we have 15 times the full arenas, the more tickets for sale" explained Luc Jalabert. And it is true that the company is running full. With a turnover of 3.4 million euros, a strong attendance (120 000 spectators per year, with the Camargue races), the arenas of Arles are a success. Jalabert have developed the "space Toro, on the outskirts of the city, with its corrales where aficionados will judge the qualities of animals fighting.
Jalabert Luke's philosophy is to offer bullfights in which "the breed of bull is as important as the name of the star bullfighter. " Arles is therefore defined more as a city "toriste" (facing the bull) than "toreriste" as Nimes (more concerned about the matador). According to him, is that "bullfighting Arles is more rooted, more rural, but also more popular than Nimes, where aficion is more urban and bourgeois." But Luke does not disdain Jalabert major matadors, since the star bullfighter bullfighting has dominated this summer is itself a Jalabert. Jean-Baptiste, said Juan Bautista, is the son of the director of the arena, and he triumphed in Madrid in June, leaving through the front door of Las Ventas (a privilege which he was the only one to benefit this year).
And Luke Jalabert has the showmanship. Bullfights "Goya", where the sand of the arena is covered with a design inspired ephemeral renowned artists such as Christian Lacroix (another famous Arles), or last year, the New York artist Ena Swansea which was dancing on a sand blue bulls, September 11.
